Soleil is a young cat who is charming and affectionate. When she was taken in by the Refuge at the beginning of winter, she was only walking on 3 paws. Examinations and x-rays revealed that one of her back paws was fractured. Soleil had to have a serious operation. The surgery went well, and after a period of convalescence that lasted several weeks, Soleil is now able to use her paw again. What a joy it was to see her able to walk on all four paws again!
Unfortunately, Soleil then developed an infection in her tail, and required surgical intervention to stop it from spreading. A large part of Soleil’s tail was amputated… In order for her to heal properly, she needed special treatments and had to undergo another period of convalescence at the clinic.
In the face of this sad reality, the Refuge appealed to your generosity to help defray the costs of this second operation as well as the fees associated with her convalescence at the clinic. Another fundraiser enabled us to pay for part of the cost of her first operation. With the additional costs associated with her infection, treatment for which involved surgery, medications, and a stay at the clinic, the total amount we needed rose to approximately $1100.
Soleil had to stay at the clinic from the end of January (when underwent her surgery) until April. She’s a little fighter. Her femur bone is entirely healed, news that brought joy to our hearts. She was able to jump from her cage onto the floor and walks around in high spirits. What progress! She’s so affectionate and playful whenever she sees a person coming towards her! She underwent laser therapy treatments to help heal the scar on her almost entirely amputated tail.
It might make you smile to know that, while she was at the clinic, Soleil managed to win the heart of the handsome Groovy (2923), a good-looking male with long black and white fur. What a lot of cooing we heard from these two cats, who were being held in separate cages, of course! Three months after being injured and then rescued, Soleil was finally ready to find a home filled with love and attention where she could evolve.
Soleil was adopted on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Luck was in the cards for Soleil- the person who adopted her is a veterinarian! She can now live a normal life in the company of another nice cat, in a loving and well-informed family. Thank you to Valérie and Carl for choosing her. We wish them many loving and happy moments with this adorable little cat!
